SCTV was a Toronto-based ensemble sketch comedy television show centered around a fictional television network. On The Fishin’ Musician segment, SCTV cast member John Candy, playing a character named Gil Fisher, proprietor of The Scuttlebutt Lodge, calls the Plasmatics “The greatest band there is.” When the Plasmatics appeared on the show in 1981, the band and Candy go on a “photo safari” where Wendy attacks a guy in a gorilla suit who comes out of a cave. Wendy mentions their EP Metal Priestess and they perform “Doom Song” as Wendy wears her headband with its rhino horn. She also wears a midriff top with leather crosses on her breasts that cover her nipples but expose the rest of her breasts. Wendy didn’t want to wear something else although studio officials threatened to cancel the Plasmatics’ SCTV appearance if she didn’t. Wendy was convinced by one of the show’s makeup artists to have her breasts painted black and the show went on.

The Plasmatics are very metal in the performance segment of their appearance – there’s a pentagram as a backdrop, Richie wearing a black leather pointy shouldered vest, Wes Beech in vampire garb. Wendy then proceeds to smash the contents of the Scuttlebutt Lodge – TV, vases, windows-- and returns to the mic as fog envelops the stage. John Candy is delighted amid the wreckage.
